SOCIOLOGY Field Trips (Jim Thomas / Sociology)

Rules for prisons:

 -- NO BLUE JEANS (slacks, non-blue jeans, cords, or other
    apparell is acceptable)
 -- NO "PROVOCATIVE" clothing (eg, tight sweaters, "muscle shirts,"
    skirts above the lower part of the knee cap)
 -- NO "BAGGY" OR "FUNKY" clothing 
 -- TWO PIECES OF PICTURE ID (eg, license, NIU id)
 -- No contraband (eg, pens, key-chain sharp implements,
    pepper spray, lighters, gum, etc)
 -- No expensive jewelry and minimal cash  (we can leave
    valuables in the vans)
 -- No chewing of gum
 -- Generally, you may not bring anything into the prison with you.
 -- Do not initiate conversations with prisoners, do not stare, and 
    do not give out any personal information about yourself.
    If you talk to a prisoner, DO NOT ask them what they are in for.
 -- **DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING FROM PRISONERS OR PICK UP ANYTHING
 -- **DO NOT ENGAGE IN SUGGESTIVE BODY POSTURING, WALKING, OR GOADING!
 -- Wear underwear (both men and women); NO THONG underwear
 -- **DO NOT ENGAGE IN SUGGESTIVE BODY POSTURING, WALKING, OR GOADING!
 -- No visible midriff flesh (ie, lowrider pants with midriff showing)
 -- No excessive visible cleavage

Prisons are no-nonsense, and if their rules are not followed,
we may all be denied entry.
